TRADITIONEEL JAZZ QUARTET SPEELT WERK VAN BEROEMDE SAXOFONISTEN

The Acronym Jazz Quartet is een veelzijdig ensemble dat met gevoel en vakmanschap jazzstandards uit het American Songbook speelt. De bezetting – tenorsaxofoon, piano, contrabas en drums – brengt bekende stukken van onder anderen Dexter Gordon, Hank Mobley, Stan Getz, Paul Desmond, Miles Davis en John Coltrane tot leven. Met hun hechte samenspel en liefde voor de traditie weten ze zowel doorgewinterde jazzliefhebbers als nieuwe luisteraars te boeien.

Trio Vree

Drie ingenieurs leerden elkaar in Delft kennen en deelden een passie voor moderne jazz. Bandleider en pianist Daniël Vree laat zich inspireren door de toonaangevende trio’s als E.S.T., Brad Mehldau trio en Medeski Martin & Wood wat resulteert in een modern geluid met lyrische thema’s en avontuurlijke grooves. In september 2018 hebben zij hun debuutalbum uitgebracht.

GUITAR LOVE

A magazine for guitar players quotes the following typical sayings of Van Iterson: about the sound of his instrument ` I used to try all kinds of separate hi fi material but I know now that sound primarily comes from the fingers. At home I always practice without amplifiers. That way you’re forced to get the best out of your fingers.’ And a charming `homely’ one about his love for the guitar: `A few times a year I fall asleep on the couch with the guitar on my lap. In the early morning my children wake me up ordering me to go to bed because they want to watch children’s tv’.

Martijn van Iterson may be down to earth but he obviously has a Dream. As he says himself in his straightforward, unaffected way: `I dream of the ultimate guitar solo because as far as I’m concerned it hasn’t happened yet’.

PRIZES GALORE

Born on July 11th 1970 in Leiden, Van Iterson graduated cum laude from the Hilversum Academy of Music in 1993. He was a member of the Jazz Dance Formation ‘All the King’s Men’; was a guest solo player on Dutch National TV and Radio with well known orchestras like ‘The Skymasters’, the ‘Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw’ and the ‘Metropole Orchestra’ and worked with several leading names like Jim Hall and Jean ‘Toots’ Thielemans. In 1996, he recorded with a.o. guitarist Mike Stern and during a project of Stefan Lievestro he worked together with drummer Gary Novak (Chick Corea) and pianist Thierry Eliez (Dee Dee Bridgewater). He played in the cross-over formation ‘D-Code’, in the quintet of bass player Ruud Jacobs, in the quartet of trombonist Ilja Reijngoud, in the ‘Piet Noordijk Quintet’  and has his own quartet with pianist Karel Boehlee, bass player Frans van Geest and drummer Martijn Vink. Prizes were many: second in the Pall Mall Swing Award (1989), second in the Wessel Ilcken Award (1991), Heineken Cross Over Award (1991), the Laren Jazz Award 2012 and last but not least the Bird Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2004.

That is in the past he says modestly, without pretence, and wonders – characteristically – whether such a review should be in a story like this.

About Max

Max Kuitems is a pianist from the Netherlands. After studying at the University of Leiden, he pursued jazz piano studying under Rob Van Bavel at the Hague’s Royal Conservatory. From that point he started to become a presence on the NL’s international jazz scene, playing in many Dutch jazz venues. He’s toured in Norway, China and Germany, played on the Willem Wilmink Award nominated children’s EP ‘Reken Maar Van Jazz’, is part of indiejazz group Snuifmos and is currently playing on Jazzton’s album release tour, “In Search of You”. Kuitems is also a prolific composer who synthesizes elements of melody and adventure into a coherent whole. He’s been working on this in his weekly residence in the well-known Cafe Le Duc with numerous award winning musicians such as Ewen Grall (trio Brūme), Antonin Jaccard (The Tonal Few) and more.

About Theo

Theo Naishtat is a jazz guitarist from Buenos Aires, Argentina (born March 11th,
2000), based in Amsterdam. Graduated in 2025 from the prestigious European Jazz
Master program of the Conservatories of Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, and Trondheim,
Theo has become an active musician in the European jazz scene.

He has released three albums as a leader—”Refugio” (2021), “Afinidades” (2023),
and “Oblivion” (2024)—and has contributed to numerous recordings as a sideman.
From a young age, Theo was deeply involved in the Buenos Aires jazz scene,
performing in jazz clubs, festivals, museums, and theaters throughout Argentina.

After finishing his bachelor at the Conservatory of Buenos Aires and relocating to
Europe in 2023 to further his studies, he has extensively toured with his quartet,
showcasing a unique blend of jazz with Argentine influences. His latest album,
“Oblivion,” has captivated audiences at various jazz clubs and festivals in France,
The Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Belgium, Switzerland and Argentina. He has
performed as leader in renowned clubs in Europe like Sunset-Sunside, 38 Riv, and
Son De La Terre (Paris), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Café de Muze (Antwerpen),

Koen van der Linden is een pianist, zanger en trompettist van o.a. Astronaut. Met zijn eigen band nederfunkt hij al een tijdje de cafés van Den Haag en omstreken plat, heeft twee singels uitbracht en werkt aan zijn debuutalbum. Verwacht hoge energie, persoonlijke liefdesnummers en stevige maatschappelijke kritiek!

Mandah Trio Line up

Een jazztrio van het Utrechtse tijdschrift, dat zich toelegt op het verkennen van de

grenzen en avonturen van muziek, probeert het publiek mee te voeren naar buitengewone

muzikale ervaringen en de grenzeloze expressie van muziek te onderzoeken door middel

van een ongebruikelijke vorm van harmonisch trio, waarbij gebruik wordt gemaakt van

Hans Braberstudeerde slagwerk aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag en aan de Berklee School of Music in Boston, waarna hij naar New York verhuisde. Hij was daar enige tijd als drummer actief en nam les bij o.a. Mel Lewis. Van 1985 tot zijn terugkeer naar Den Haag in 1998 woonde en werkte hij in Keulen, als docent verbonden aan de Rheinische Musikschule. Hans speelde o.a. met Monty Alexander, Lalo Schifrin, Benny Bailey, Don Friedman, Larry Coryell, Mike LeDonne, Vincent Herring, Dena DeRose en Ted Rosenthal.Vandaag wordt het heerlijk swingen met een paar goede muziekvrienden: Hans Schönau (tenorsax), Han van der Rhee (piano) en Willem van Wijgaarden (bas).

PUTZ THE FUNK IN TO JAZZ!

Begin 2001 start Jan-Jaap van Os (gitaar) Fazzz om jazz toegankelijker en hipper te maken. Foppe Mijnlieff (Rhodes/Mooge) is al enige tijd de toetsenist als in 2008 drummer Reinier van Bevervoorde zich voegt bij het kwartet. Als in 2010 Philip Bakker de bas vacature opvult is de cirkel rond. Er worden nu ook naast het repertoire van Herbie Hancock tot Snarky Puppy, ook eigen nummers gecomponeerd. De slogan van hun laatste CD/Spotify “Putz the Funk into Jazz“ zal niemand verbazen als je de band in levende lijve hoort!

Giannis Paterakis, is a 21-year-old drummer from Crete, Greece. He was born and raised in the village of Kissamos. His musical journey began at age 10 when he started playing snare drum in a marching band, which encouraged his passion for drum lessons. From ages 12 to 16, he studied with Cretan drum teachers and between ages 16 and 18, he travelled monthly to Athens to take lessons by Spyros Panagiotopoulos, one of Greece’s leading jazz drum teachers. At 18, he began his studies at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague, where he is currently in his third year of bachelor’s studies under the guidance of Eric Ineke, Felix Schlarmann, Stefan Kruger, and Willie Jones III.

Since beginning his performance career at 17, he has played over 100 gigs. In Greece, he has performed at numerous bars and clubs, as well as festivals including the Vlatos Jazz Festival and Cretan World Music Festival. In 2024 he had the pleasure of working with Vamos Orchestra as a percussionist where among others they performed Misa Criolla (A. Ramirez) in Giortes Rokkas Festival for an audience of over 5,000 people. While jazz is his primary focus, he has also performed funk, soul, R&B, and pop music, with highlights performing with artists such as Adedeji Adetayo, Jean Loup Longon, Asteris Papastamatakis, Yiannis Papadopoulos, Yiorgos Limakis, Epi K Paradox and Sakis Tsinoukas. In the Netherlands, he performs at venues across South Holland, including Dizzy’s Jazz Cafe in Rotterdam and Murphy’s Law in The Hague.

About Davor

Davor Stehlik (born 1994) is a guitarist based in Amsterdam. He was born and raised in Serbia and under the influence of his father (guitarist as well), Davor discovered his interest towards music at the age of 13 and chose to play drums as well as guitar. After 3 years of being predominantly a drummer, he decided to concentrate just on guitar, started attending a high school for music “Stankovic” (jazz department) in Belgrade where he completely fell in love with jazz.

After finishing the high school, he moved to Vienna (Austria) to do his bachelor degree and studied with Claus Spechtl and Christian Havel. During that time he became an important member of Viennese jazz scene and shared the stage with some of the most prominent jazz musicians of Austria such as Oliver Kent, Mario Gonzi, Uli Langthaler, Roman Schwaller and Dušan Novakov. Besides many gigs in small clubs, he performed in venues/festivals like Jazzland, Porgy and Bess, Generations, MM Jazz festival, etc.

In 2017 he moved to Amsterdam where he was accepted to the Conservatory of Amsterdam and granted a scholarship for the master studies. He had the honour to study with Jesse van Ruller, Martijn van Iterson, Reinier Baas, Maarten van der Grinten and Peter Bernstein.

Since his residence in Holland, he has been recognized as a successful sideman as well as a bandleader. Among many different concerts, some of the notable performances include venues such as Bimhuis, LantarenVenster, Verkadefabriek, TivoliVredenburg, Theater Orpheus, La Bal Blomet, Jazzland and festivals like North Sea Jazz festival, Jazzahead, Jazz a Vienne, Grachtenfestival, Jazz in Duketown, So What’s Next and Red Light Jazz festival.

Since 2013 Davor has been working as a professional guitar teacher, both privately and in schools. Also he prepared a couple of his students for conservatory entrance exams with great success.

Justine is een jazzvocaliste gevestigd in Delft. Ze zet een set neer die past bij de energie van de avond – van rustige, sfeervolle ballads tot energieke swing vol improvisatie, met als grote inspiratiebron Ella Fitzgerald. Samen met haar band, bestaande uit medestudenten van het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, brengt ze muziek die zowel intiem als levendig aanvoelt.

Ze heeft gestudeerd aan het Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen en volgt momenteel een opleiding in de richting jazz vocals aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium. Eerder trad ze onder meer op bij bruiloften en verschillende Haagse en Delftse jazzcafés. Met invloeden uit de traditionele jazz, interpretaties van hedendaagse stukken en eigen arrangementen, brengt ze een uniek geluid mee naar de avond.

Van jongs af aan was Theo nauw betrokken bij de jazzscene van Buenos Aires en trad hij op in jazzclubs, op festivals, in musea en theaters in heel Argentinië.

Na het behalen van zijn bachelordiploma aan het Conservatorium van Buenos Aires en zijn verhuizing naar
Europa in 2023 om zijn studie voort te zetten, toerde hij uitgebreid met zijn kwartet, dat een unieke mix van jazz met Argentijnse invloeden liet horen. Zijn nieuwste album,
‘Oblivion’ heeft het publiek geboeid in verschillende jazzclubs en festivals in Frankrijk,
Nederland, Duitsland, Noorwegen, België, Zwitserland en Argentinië. Hij heeft
trad op als leider in gerenommeerde clubs in Europa als Sunset-Sunside, 38 Riv en
Son De La Terre (Parijs), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Café de Muze (Antwerpen),
Jazzhaus Heidelberg (Heidelberg), Neushoorn Jazz Café (Leeuwarden), Alte
Feuerwache (Mannheim), Dokkhuset (Trondheim), Fuglen (Oslo) en Rank (Zürich).

The Associated is a collective of musicians united by a shared artistic vision, supporting and inspiring each other’s musical journey.
